SUBSTANCE ABUSE ASSESSMENTS*

A North Carolina DWI substance abuse assessment requires a $100.00** fee. It is composed of a face-to-face clinical interview, an approved standardized test, a review of the complete driving record ($10) and verification of alcohol concentration at the time of arrest.

Clients who have completed a DWI substance abuse assessment are placed in one of the following service levels:

ADETS: (Alcohol and Drug Education Traffic School) criteria for recommendation:

Those clients who do not meet the criteria for ADETS must be referred to treatment. There are four progressive levels of treatment: 

Level 2: A minimum of 20 hours of treatment, conducted over a minimum period of  30 days.

Level 3: A minimum of 40 hours of treatment, conducted over a minimum period of 60 days.

Level 4: A minimum of 90 hours over a minimum period of 90 days.

Level 5: Inpatient treatment, coupled with an aftercare program, both of which must last for a minimum period of 90 days.

To have your driver’s license reinstated, you must: complete a substance abuse assessment and complete the recommendation made by the assessor.

If a convicted person fails to comply their driver’s license remains  revoked. This person is subject to arrest for Driving While License Revoked (DWLR).
